Introduction
Welcome to my electronic portfolio for COM 204: Anatomy of Speech and Hearing Mechanisms. As a part of my journey towards becoming a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA), this class has provided invaluable insights into the foundational anatomy and physiology that underpins speech production. Understanding the intricacies of how our bodies produce and perceive speech is essential for anyone pursuing a career in speech-language pathology. This knowledge not only informs our practice but also enhances our ability to effectively assess and support individuals with communication disorders.
In this project, I will create an electronic portfolio that highlights my understanding of the anatomy and physiology of speech production through dedicated sections focused on key systems involved in the process. Each section will explore the Respiratory, Phonatory, Resonatory, Articulatory, Auditory, and Nervous Systems, showcasing the critical roles they play in facilitating communication. To enhance the learning experience, I will include original visual diagrams for each system, illustrating both its anatomy and function. These visual representations will provide a clearer understanding of how these systems interact, allowing for a comprehensive view of the speech production mechanism. Through this portfolio, I hope to demonstrate not only my grasp of the material but also my commitment to applying this knowledge in my future career as an SLPA, ultimately helping individuals improve their communication skills and quality of life.
